Michael Griffiths is a highly accomplished drummer whose passion for drums and music
began at the age of 9. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Australian Institute of
Music (AIM) and has over three decades of professional experience in both teaching and
performing.
Michael is passionate about sharing his knowledge with beginner and advanced
drummers alike, extending beyond the teaching of drums and into mentoring within the context of
performance and career development for aspiring drummers.
With over three decades of drumming, Michael has extensive knowledge and experience on the
craft of drumming through a wide variety of drumming styles.
His experience in the professional drumming world, allows Michael to connect students with extensive external drumming opportunities outside the learning of drums.
Michael teaches students from new beginners, to more advanced players pursuing professional careers with a focus on both the theoretical development and understanding of music, musical appreciation across a wide range of genres, as well as the practical applications of drumming and music. Michael’s teaching experience also extends to students with learning disabilities and difficulties, allowing him to
assist students of all backgrounds.
Michael has expertise in a wide array of musical genres including: R&B, Jazz, Salsa, Rock, Country, Pop and Scottish Pipe Drumming.
In addition to teaching, Michael has played with a wide variety of musicians throughout the Sydney scene, Wollongong and Newcastle to name a few. He has played with artists such as: Ricky Lynch, Mike Mathieson, The Chris Alexander Trio, Mike Walsh, Bump, Skinful (featuring Mark Mittarg of Head Hunters), Dave Debbs,
Chalkie White, Cowpoke, Adam Pringle, Driftwood, George Golla, Jeremy Sawkins, Chris Soulos, Lior, SOQ, The Wiggles and many others, as well as working with local school for local musical productions.
Additionally, Michael serves as the Drum Sergeant in The Highlands Pipes and Drums, offering expert tuition in this unique genre and participating in various competitions.
Over the years, many of his students have successfully completed their Higher School Certificate (HSC) and pursued further education at prestigious institutions such as the Sydney Conservatorium, AIM, and JMC Music Academy, actively contributing to the music scene.
Michael also offers examination preparation for the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) and Trinity Rock and Pop for all grades
