Ren Marcon has been a professional performer, composer and music educator for over 20 years, having played, toured and recorded with some of the the world’s finest artists including: James Morrison, Sandy Evans, James Muller, Lloyd Swanton, Hamish Stuart, Bernie McGann, James Greening, Don Burrows, Kevin Hunt, Tom Baker, Bob Barnard, Janet Seidel, Monica Trapaga, Marcia Hines, Christine Anu, Margaret Urlich, Daryl Braithwaite, Leo Sayer, John Waters & Justine Clarke plus international musicians such as “Plas” Johnson (Henry Mancini Orchestra), Arvell Shaw (Louis Armstrong All-Stars), Leroy Jones, Craig Kline, John Allred & Lucian Barbaran (Harry Connick Jr.), Warren Vaché, Harry Allen, Jason Marsalis and Ned Rothenberg. 

His role as an educator has seen him in teaching positions which include being Head of Woodwind (saxophone/clarinet), Broadmeadow Performing Arts School (Newcastle) 1994-1996, Saxophone Masterclasses/Jazz Ensemble Tuition at the Pan Pacific Jazz Camp (for James Morrison) from 1996-2002 and also presenting masterclasses on saxophone technique and jazz/improvisation theory at the Brisbane, Hobart, Launceston, Wagga Wagga & Goulburn Conservatoriums of Music, the Universities of New England & Wollongong (NSW) & University of Santo Thomas (Catholic University of the Phillipines), Manilla. 

Ren also runs an Electronic Music and Composition course as part of the University Of Wollongong’s Learning Labs holiday program. His latest live performance project is the highly innovative and experimental duo “The Mod-Day Gents” where Ren collaborates with Rick Falkiner (guitar) and utilises Ableton Live software to create live loops, mixing acoustic instruments (clarinet, saxophones, double bass and guitar) with electronic elements such as Wavetable Synths and the Novation Launchpad grid instrument within a conceptual and improvised framework.
